I know it seems cliché. We have Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day etc, a way to make money, a corporate, marketing gimmick to make us feel like we should do something for those who are significant in our lives, and guilty if we don't regardless of what the personal situation is. Call me cynical.
Many avoid.
But it seems to me World Earth Day on 22nd April, is a good and necessary day when we can love and appreciate our planet, and as a globe we still muster through the Coronavirus pandemic, we must love and appreciate our planet more than ever, today and every day. Call me a dreamer.
When I was in NYC they lit up their iconic buildings in green, and turned off all unnecessary lights, which was a good reminder as we were all out and about.
However, this year the pandemic might mean you're still in lockdown, not able to travel far, or just not sure how to celebrate the day.
Well I've a small suggestion, and its free and its green, literally, and it requires a bottle. London Terrarium with Bottled Baking Co has created a free workshop giving a plant it's home from empty glass containers.
You can do this alone, with the family, with the dog watching, or the cat perched on the window sill, best of all it helps nature, and it's a well known fact that nature helps with us feeling better and releasing all those good endorphins.
The founder of Bottled Baking co,
Greg Fraser does this with his young son he's creating this campaign to emphasising the importance on having a positive impact on the environment "...it's great to do something to ensure the longevity of
the planet he’ll grow up in."
So watch the collaborative effort of a pre-measure baking
mix company, Bottled Baking Co, with a Jam brand company Rosie and Fearne and London Terrarium where they'll show you how
to create a new home for your plants using an empty bottle or jar, bits and pieces
found lying around at home like pasta containers to vases, upcycling if you will!
Of course more slick solutions from the presenting companies will feature too - distributing a foraging list
beforehand for people to scavenge and used to create their very own "terrarium".
The point is you can help the planet and be part of a livestream creating something useful that comes from objects in your own home.
I'm for World Earth Day, because unlike other dates marked for celebrations, the more we celebrate our Earth the more we'll care for it each day without even thinking.
Feel free to join the livestream and pop your pictures of your creations in the comments.
